There have been at least 17 road fatalities in Barbados between January 1 and November 30. The first version of this post mistakenly included December figures in all charts and images. This has been corrected.
I’ve been considering tracking road fatalities in Barbados for some time but only decided to start now. What pushed me was the recent report of another pedestrian falling victim to a hit-and-run on December 11. This incident, combined with Barbados’ unique context—a small island of just 166 square miles (466 square kilometers) with a population of over 280,000 people, and more than 100,000 vehicles—highlighted the pressing need to monitor these occurrences.
As this is my first post on this topic. I may make this a regular feature if time permits. The methodology is similar to my homicide posts, i.e., I depend exclusively on what is reported in the media.
